Week 2: Problem Scoping - Gabriella

The second week has been super exciting! I finally am starting to feel more settled into life in New York City. Navigating the subway system has been learning experience in itself, but I'm gradually becoming confident exploring the city.

This week, I began focusing on my project, which is going to involve analyzing a pre-existing dataset on physical activity in participants with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).  I have been working to understand the different domains covered in the surveys used to collect this data, which has given me valuable insight into how patient experiences are captured and quantified. Building on this, I have started brainstorming potential correlations and shaping ideas for a data analysis plan.

I am especially looking forward to the upcoming week, when I will have the opportunity to shadow my PI. Gaining a deeper understanding of patient experiences is one of my key goals for this summer, and I am excited to pair clinical exposure with my research work. I also plan to begin reaching out to physicians for interviews to further expand my perspective on patient care and the clinical landscape.
